ISLE OF HARRIS GOLF CLUB
NEWS
On 14th June 2001, the well known Irish Ryder Cup golfer and popular Sky Sports commentator, Ronan Rafferty visited Scarista Golf Course. He is pictured below opening our new "Bunker" which houses toilet facilities and a changing area. The "Bunker" is set into the side of the hill and faces west towards the island of Taransay. It was donated to the club by Sea Scot Ltd, a shellfish buying company operating from Leverburgh, South Harris and was transported and laid in place by Uist Builders(Construction)Ltd at no cost to the club. We are indebted to the generosity of these two companies.
Ronan enjoyed his flying visit and was clearly impressed by the course and its setting. He was particularly impressed with the par 4 second hole which requires a brave tee shot across the shore to reach the fairway which slopes all along its length to the sea. The club members who were fortunate to be on the course that day were equally impressed by Ronan's play and by his charm and friendliness. We hope that he will be able to resume his successful playing career after a hand injury that kept him off the leaderboards of the European Tour for too long.
